The Kirdford Inventories.

This inventory from 1616, of Robert Strudwick, Yeoman of Crouchland, Kirdford, makes interesting reading, and gives us an fascinating insight into what our ancestors owned and how they lived. I have left the spelling as it was written and all money is in pounds, shillings and pence, (£ s d).

Feb.13th 1616, In the chamber wheare he laye. His apparrel and money in his purse, £5, 1 joyned(1) bedstedle, 1 fetherbed, 1 fether bolster, 2 pillowes and 2 coveringes, 2 blankettes with cuttains, and valllens, £5.2s.6d,. 2 Lytle coffers, 1 wicker chaire, 5s.6d.

In the maydes chamber.

2 oulde bedstedles, 2 flockbeds canves, 3flockbolsters, 2 coverletts, 2 blanketts, with one tester of staineclothe, 37s., 1 oulde cheste, 3s.4d.

In the menservants chamber.

3 bedstedles, 2 flockbeds, 2 flockbolsters, 2 oulde coverletts, 2 blanketts, and 1 staineclothe, 38s.

In the hall.

1 table with a frame, 1 forme, 10s., 1 smalle byble and 2 salters, 11s.

 

In the bakehowse.

1 powderinge troughe, 1 bunting hutch(2) 1 cheese presse, 2 bolles, 1 kyver with 3 sackes with cheesehoopes(3) basketts and other lumber and thinges of smalle value, 12s.6d.

In the parlor.

1 drawing table with a frame and a carpet, 6 joyned stooles, lyverie cupboarde with a carpet, 1 joyned chaire, 2 wrought loomework cushions, 4s.3d., 1 oulde cradle, 12d.

In the chamber over the parlor.

1 bedstedle joyned, 30s., 1 fetherbed, 1 fetherbolster, 2 fether pillowes, 1 coverlett and 21 blankett with cutains and vallens, £5.6s.8d., 1 table with a frame and a carpet, 5 joyned stooles, 1 joyned chare, 1 chest and a pare of wrought andyrons,27s., 1 sylver salte and 2 sylver spoones, £3.10s., 2 womens gownes of clothe, £3.6s.8d., 2 gownes of stuffe beinge oulde, 40s., 2 clothe peticoates and a oulde peticoate of stuffe and a wastecoate, 53s.4d., 3 silke kirtles with 2 stomachers of silke, £3., 2 hattes of felte, 12s.

In the chamber above the kythcin.

1 joyned bedstedle, 1 fetherbed, 1 fethebolster, 1 coverlet, 1 blankett, £4.5s.

In the butterie.

1 planke table, 7 barrells, a pare of slinges, 1 shelfe, 15s.

Linnen in the howse.

11 pare of sheetes, £3.13s.4d., 7 tablecloathes, 33s.4d., 21 dyaper napkyns, 6s., 12 flaxen napkyns, 6s., 2 dyaper towells and 2 flaxen towells, 6s.8d., 8 pillowe coates, 8s., 1 long towell hollen, 3s.4d.

In the garret loftes.

oates in the floore and in the vates, 8 quaters, £3.4s., hopps in the howse in 2 tubbes, 6s., beanes in the howse, 6s., hastie peason, 4s., fethers in a tubbe, 3s., oaten malte, 12s., 12s., 8 hoggs of bacon and 3 flitches of beefe, £8.

In the milkhowse.

a buttercharne, a table upon a tressle, 4 trugges with crockes and smalle implements, larde in vessells, 18s.
